Lord, by this time he stinketh! (Jn 11:39)

For reasons he won’t discuss, Evangelical Eric has become obsessed with this in a way that none of us think can be considered wholesome.

And while we’re sniffing around the subject of little Rev. Steve Wood, it appears his 40 day process of discerning if it’s ok to steal church property didn’t actually commence until today. Personally I think any one so enamored with their own scent as to wear the same trousers for 21 consecutive days without washing them (click the link in the first paragraph if you haven’t already done so and don’t know what I’m talking about, but make sure you’ve a sick bag handy if you’re of a sensitive disposition) will be in perfect company with Messrs. Duncan, Minns, and Ashey. Although I suspect the Forward in Faith dearies will politely offer him a seat downwind when he’s attending ACNA meetings.

I’m Father Christian and I teach the Bible.

There is something eternally special about soiled spirits preaching fear, difference and loathing from atop soap boxes no matter the location (I was first introduced to them as ¨religious nuts¨ while walking through L.A.´s Pershing Square as a small child...I was encouraged to always, always means always, avoid them along with anyone that offered candy bars to go for ¨rides¨ in their car. My Mom new stuff.

I'm curious about something and perhaps with your extensive historical perspective you can answer me... has any church, ever, undertaken their "40 day journey" and come back saying

"We were wrong... God isn't calling us to do the thing we thought he was, he's calling us to do the thing that we thought was abhorrent and misguided, and we're glad we did this 40-day search and come up with the hard answer. God calls us into deeper Christian service right where we are! So, sorry, Father, you can pack your bags and leave now, we're calling someone to help us in what God is clearly calling us to do."

I've been asking that same question, Clumber.
I think the proper response to the statement "Our parish has decided to take the '40 Days of Discernment' program" is "Don't let the red Diocesan Door hit you in the ass!"

Similar observation from perusing little Steve's blog, "Treading Grain." If this indeed is a discernment period, why has the Wood Man already announced his decision? Are they really "waiting upon the Lord" or is he not just putting in the time so that everyone will agree with his private discernment? We know the answer, of course, but the situation is troubling at best.

The other question I would like someone (anyone!) to answer is how many of the defectors in this soap opera have or have not been raised in the Anglican tradition. Methinks that this is a converts' movement--not that I think converts to be a bad thing, but it may just be that we're observing a phenomenon of church leapers? Dunno.

Well, just your post title made my day, Fr Christian. No one can say you don't know your Bible! And then, comes lagniappe, the story of the 21 day wearing of the same pants without benefit of laundering challenge. Perhaps, he will repeat the test during the 40 days of discernment.

I hope that you are watching poor Eric closely.

Did I fail to hit "post" on something submitted a few hours back, or did my submission exceed even your generous definition of "decency", Fr Troll?

No, no my Dear Sinner - I think you may just have posted to this thread by mistake.

No problem: I've been enjoying hours of mirth at the the site to which you directed us - which is indeed applicable to little Wood. And anyone confused by this conversation can find enlightenment by going here, then spending a little time on the site where that image came from.

Thank you for clearing that up, Father. It's not unknown for me to forget to hit "post". It is a fun site, so glad it made it through and that it's given you pleasure.
